What will it take to achieve true sustainability? **
Henry, in addition to your fine points about sustainability, I would like to add the concept of local resiliency. I just finished an intriguing book called the Transition Handbook by Rob Hopkins who discusses how communities can survive and thrive as we navigate our way down the Peak Oil mountain and cope with climate change.
“Resilience is the capacity of a system to absorb disturbance and reorganize while undergoing change, so as to still retain essentially the same function, structure, identity, and feedbacks.”
So local resiliency is all about "re-skilling" ourselves to be more focused on community interdependence and living more sustainably within a community’s means. I'll bring the book with me to MEES.
